Eilat Bird Park

About

All the information about the Eilat Bird Park The park, which covers an area of about 520 dunams in northern Eilat, was established on the site of a former municipal landfill and underwent a large-scale process of ecological restoration. Today it serves as an essential habitat for migratory birds, a hub for research and wildlife conservation, and an open visitor site for the general public. What you see and do in the park At the Bird Park you can stroll on organized walking paths between lakes, water ponds, and diverse habitats, and observe birds during migration seasons—mainly in spring and autumn. Among the species you can see are herons, kingfishers, cormorants, flamingos, waders, plovers, warblers, and various songbird species. The habitats in the park were carefully planned and include brackish-water lakes, saltwater ponds, nesting areas, halophyte vegetation, and desert woodland—so that in every migration season, essential food and resting places are available for birds before or after crossing the Sahara Desert. Why is Eilat so important for bird migration? Eilat is the last green spot before a journey of about 3,000 kilometers over the Sahara Desert for migratory birds flying south in autumn, and the first green spot for those returning north in spring. In the past, the Eilat salt marsh served as a natural "refueling station," but the development of the city severely harmed the habitat. The Bird Park was established in order to restore the conditions that were lost and allow birds to stop, rest, and store energy for the continuation of the journey. Research, banding, and wildlife conservation The park is operated by the Israel Birding Center and also serves as an active research center. During migration seasons, bird banding is carried out in the park as part of long-term monitoring of the birds' condition, migration patterns, and the effects of climate change and habitat loss. This activity helps improve park management and conserve migratory birds on an international scale. Who is the visit suitable for? Nature and birding enthusiasts Nature photographers Families with curious children (a relaxed, educational visit) Hikers looking for a quiet, green, different attraction in Eilat
