For the iconic seafront, Promenade des Anglais (Negresco, Hyatt Regency Palais de la Méditerranée). For the colourful alleys and the local Niçoise vibe, Old Nice. For peaceful views, the Cimiez hills (Matisse and Chagall museums). For station convenience, the Thiers area. The tram connects all of this within a short walk of the centre.
Expect €180-380 per night in a 4-star, €450-900 in a 5-star (Negresco, Hyatt Regency Palais de la Méditerranée, La Pérouse), €100-180 in a well-located 3-star. Peak seasons: July-August (prices x2), Cannes Film Festival (May, coastal prices x3), Nice Carnival (February-March). Mild winter brings low prices and calm.
Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE) is 7 min by tram T2 to Jean Médecin (~€1.50). Taxi: flat fare €32 centre / €36 west. Bus 99/98: €6. For seafront palaces, a 5-10 min taxi. Excellent rail links to Monaco (20 min), Cannes (40 min), Saint-Paul-de-Vence by bus.
Nice has France's second-largest Jewish community after Paris. Several kosher restaurants (rue de la Buffa, rue Pertinax, rue Bonaparte). No hotel is strictly kosher, but several seafront hotels have arrangements with kosher caterers. For Shabbat, hotels within walking distance of the Grande Synagogue (rue Gustave Deloye) are most convenient. Let us know your requirements before booking.
May-June and September-October offer ideal weather (20-26°C, warm sea). Summer (July-August) is very busy: crowded promenade, high prices, vibrant atmosphere. Winter is mild (10-15°C) — historically why English and Russian travellers came here. Avoid Cannes during the Festival if you stay in Nice (coastal prices explode).
