Frequently asked questions

Practical answers before booking your hotel in Mauritius.

Which coast of Mauritius should we choose for our stay?

The west coast (Flic-en-Flac, Wolmar, Tamarin) is famed for its sunsets, sheltered lagoon and dolphin swims; the north (Grand Baie, Trou aux Biches) is the liveliest area, with restaurants, shopping and excursions; the east (Belle Mare, Trou d'Eau Douce) is wilder, breezier and more private, perfect for premium resorts that face the lagoon; the south (Bel Ombre, Le Morne) draws kitesurfers, hikers and UNESCO heritage lovers. For a first visit, the west and north offer the simplest balance.

What budget should we plan for a hotel in Mauritius in 2026?

A well-located four-star on half-board sits between 200 and 450 EUR per night for a double room. Signature five-stars (LUX*, Constance Belle Mare Plage, Constance Prince Maurice, Anahita) range from 500 to 1,200 EUR depending on category and meal plan. Iconic addresses (Beachcomber Royal Palm, One&Only Saint Géran, Constance Prince Maurice in suite) often exceed 1,500 EUR per night. European school holidays, July-August and the year-end window mark the peak pricing windows.

How does the airport transfer from SSR Airport (MRU) work?

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (IATA code MRU) is located in Plaisance, in the south-east of the island. Allow roughly 30 minutes to Bel Ombre and Le Morne, 45 minutes to Belle Mare, around an hour to Flic-en-Flac and 1h to 1h15 to Grand Baie. We arrange a private air-conditioned car with driver (60 to 110 EUR depending on the area); top-tier resorts also offer their own VIP transfer, with an Air Mauritius helicopter option for late arrivals.

Is there a Jewish community and any kosher option in Mauritius?

Mauritius is home to a small historic Jewish community, mainly in Curepipe and Port-Louis, and to a Chabad presence that runs around holidays and Israeli group bookings rather than as a year-round Chabad House. The major resorts (LUX*, Constance, Beachcomber, One&Only Saint Géran, Anahita) will, with notice, arrange kosher meals from imported produce and set up a dedicated kitchen for groups; for an individual stay it is wiser to bring part of your dry goods. We always confirm the full protocol with the property in advance.

When is the best time of year to travel to Mauritius?

The island enjoys a mild, dry austral winter from May to November, with temperatures of 22 to 26 degrees, low humidity and calm seas: this is our preferred window. September to November offers an excellent balance of weather and pricing. December is very busy (holidays plus warm weather). Avoid January to March, the cyclone season, with high temperatures and a real risk of tropical storms, especially on the east coast. For Pesach and Tishrei, rooms should be booked six months ahead.
