Frequently asked questions

Practical answers before booking your hotel in Tokyo.

Which district should we choose in Tokyo?

For luxury and calm, Ginza or Marunouchi (Aman, Mandarin Oriental, Peninsula, Four Seasons). For lively buzz, Shinjuku or Shibuya (skyscrapers, neon, Hachiko). For authenticity, Asakusa (Senso-ji temple, traditional atmosphere). Avoid districts far from the Yamanote loop — Tokyo is best lived by metro and every transfer counts.

What budget should we plan for a Tokyo hotel?

Expect €250-450 per night in a 4-star, €600-1,500 in a palace (Aman, Mandarin Oriental, Peninsula, Park Hyatt), €130-220 in a 3-star or business hotel. Peak seasons: cherry blossoms (March-April, prices x2), Golden Week (late April-early May), autumn foliage (October-November). The relatively weak yen makes Tokyo more affordable than before.

How do we reach Tokyo from Narita or Haneda?

Narita: Narita Express to Tokyo (60 min, ~€30) or Limousine Bus (90 min, ~€25). Haneda (closer): monorail 15 min to Hamamatsucho (~€6) or metro 30 min. Taxi: Narita €200+, Haneda €60-80. The JR Rail Pass makes sense based on your overall itinerary. Elynor Tours can arrange a private French-speaking transfer for late arrivals.

Are there kosher hotels in Tokyo?

No hotel is strictly kosher in Japan, but a few kosher restaurants (Chana Cafe, the Hiroo Chabad House restaurant) operate in Tokyo. Palace hotels (Mandarin Oriental, Peninsula) can arrange kosher cuisine on request with significant notice (ideally 4 weeks). The Hiroo Chabad House welcomes travellers. Let us know your requirements before travel.

When is the best time to visit Tokyo?

March-May (sakura, mild 15-22°C) and October-November (red foliage, clear skies) are the ideal seasons. Summer (June-August) is hot and humid (28-35°C, sometimes oppressive). January-February is cold but sunny. Avoid the tsuyu rainy season (June) if you want long walks.
