All information about Kerem Carmel Forest Kerem Carmel Forest—routes and information in this article: Get to know Kerem Carmel Forest Kerem Carmel Forest—routes Kerem Carmel Forest—attractions Get to know Kerem Carmel Forest: Not without reason did the "Green Mountain," that is, Mount Carmel, become a sought-after area for hiking and leisure in nature. Among the many routes, parking lots, and attractions is Kerem Carmel Forest, located in the south-eastern part of Carmel, offering walking tours and picnic spots. It has seasonal blooming, burial caves, a famous monastery, organized parking lots with accessible picnic tables placed by KKL, viewpoints and observation points. Kerem Carmel Forest covers the area between the Mukhraka Monastery, the town of Yoqne'am, and the Alikim interchange, on the south-eastern slopes of the mountain. Kerem Carmel Forest—Routes Cave Trail Hiking on a circular route of about 2.5 km, suitable for experienced hikers because of a short and steep incline at the end of the route. Setting out: From the parking lot, retrace your steps westward, along the road you arrived on, until you see a direction sign for the Cave Trail, marked in red. After about 100 m, you will reach a large open area carved in the rock. Here you will see six caves whose entrances are decorated with quarrying in the shape of an arch. These are the burial caves of Khurbat Harmesh, containing small halls with burial niches and platforms for placing corpses. According to one theory, the site served an affluent Jewish family from the end of the Roman period or the Byzantine period as a burial estate. Burial cave at Khurbat Harmesh | Photo: Guy Asiag / KKL Photo Archive. From the burial caves, continue with the winding trail between stone picnic tables, a cypress plot, and a plot of Aleppo pine trees. North of the burial trail you can see, in the months of November–December, the blooming of narcissus. The trail climbs into the thickness of the forest. In the winter months and spring you can see narcissus, cyclamen, and squill around you. Continue to a broad path marked in green and from there to the junction. Continue walking straight with the trail marked in red. You reach a dirt road; you climb through the steep forest until you reach a few wooden steps and two benches facing the view—Kerem Carmel Lookout (Mukhraka). After a viewpoint stop and rest, continue with the signage instructing you to the continuation of the Cave Trail. This time you descend through the forest until you reach additional burial caves, only some of whose openings are exposed. It is forbidden to enter these caves! From here the trail continues downhill to the dirt road, where you turn right until you reach a wooden post that turns left. The continuation will lead you among terraces, orchard trees, and waves of stones—the former village of al-Zarusi Umm- al-Zinat, meaning "mother of the beauties." This is a place to enjoy seasonal blooming: in autumn—Sternbergia, crocuses, and narcissus; at the beginning of winter—cyclamen and squill; and later, blooming of a variety of types of flowers and plants. Cyclamen and squill in Kerem Carmel Forest | Photo: Kalan Edar / KKL Photo Archive. A moment before you return to the start of the route, you will pass by an olive tree vineyard with a bench inviting you to stop and enjoy the view. At the beginning of the route or at its end, you can enjoy a picnic at the Sha'ar Carmel parking lot under conifer trees, beside picnic tables, some of which are accessible. The site also has restrooms, water taps, and an accessible trail. Start and end point: Khurbat Harmesh parking lot How do you get to the start point? From the Alikim interchange, drive north toward Route 672—Dalit al-Karmel. After about 600 m, turn right to the Sha'ar Carmel parking lot. Continue driving to the eastern end of the Sha'ar Carmel parking lot to a green-marked bedrock road, between the forest trees. After about 600 m, near the olive tree vineyard and "Tzabar" (cluster/cacti), turn right; and after about 130 m, turn left into a large open area with a KKL sign on it. Continue driving another ~100 m to the Khurbat Harmesh parking lot. Ein Elroi🥾 Excursions

Ein Elroi

מעיין אלרואי

4.0
Haifa and Mount Carmel

All the information about Ein Elroi at the beginning of the settlement's history, in the years 1936–1952: at first the spring served as a source of drinking water for the settlement and for irrigating the orchard; later, of course, it continued as well. Today the spring flows into an artificial pool that was dug in the 1960s on the initiative of Ze'ev Shorki, of the members of the Elroi moshav, and as noted on site, he was a family man who loved people, nature, and the land. Therefore some will call the place "Ze'ev Spring." In the past the pool was used as a storage pool for irrigating the nearby orchards. Around the spring you can find typical vegetation of the area and the springs, including: holy bramble (ptel kadosh), eastern plane (dolev mizrahi), silky poplar (tsefetsefa makhsifa), and an impressive and beautiful mulberry tree. From the spring, a 650-meter path leads south to the old train station in Elroi, where there is a lovely reconstruction of the Emek (Valley) Train Station of the Elroi settlement, along with exquisitely restored train cars. As of today, maintenance and renovation works are being carried out on site, but the area around the spring is accessible and still enjoyable. Between one dip and another, it is recommended to visit the Emek train restoration site adjacent to the spring. Next to the parking area, a small and delightful bicycle park was built, where riders train in technical control of their bicycles using "pumping" and generating momentum without the need for pedaling. Please keep the place clean! Looking for a tasty place to eat after your dip? Stop by the coffee cart "Atnachta" ("Interlude"), located within a short walking distance from Ein Elroi, offering a variety of fresh pastries, chilled drinks, sandwiches, and even cocktails! Nahal Na'aman Stream Trail🥾 Excursions

Nahal Na'aman Stream Trail

שביל נחל נעמן

Haifa and Mount Carmel

All information about Nahal Naaman trail. The name of the stream comes from the Arabic name "An-Na'im," meaning "invitation." According to a local legend, when the Prophet Muhammad passed through the land, most streams refused to let him cross—and only Nahal Naaman invited him to continue on his way. In the past, enormous quantities of water flowed down the stream—about 5,000 cubic meters per hour—from the Ein Afek springs at the foot of Tel Afek, an area that was entirely swampy. Due to the gentle gradient and the short distance from the sea, the stream was forced to flow along a path three times longer than required. This created huge swamps around it—a habitat for Anopheles mosquitoes that carried malaria. To enable agriculture and prevent flooding, in the 1920s and 1930s the area began to be drained. The JNF (KKL) purchased the lands, and the first kibbutzim in the area—Kfar Massarik, Ein HaMifratz, and Afek—channeled the streams into canals and created faster flow. In 1942, the spring waters were even diverted for industrial use in the Haifa Bay, and the swamps became fields and fish ponds. Today, what remains of the swamps is protected by nature reserves—Ein Afek Reserve, Ein Ninfet Reserve, and Nahal Naaman—preserving the stream's flora and fauna. In recent years, and especially since 2007, the stream has been restored as part of a large-scale project by the JNF (KKL), the Authority for Western Galilee Stream (Rashut Nahal Galil HaMevush?), and additional bodies. The stream was deepened, enormous amounts of silt were removed from it, and old pollution hotspots were also treated, such as landfills. Paths, bridges, tables, and benches were built, and its surroundings became a green park suitable for walking, cycling, and a relaxed stroll beside flowing water. The water sources were also restored: drilled well water is pumped back into the Ein Afek reserve, and from there into the stream. To these are added water from fish ponds and agricultural drainage—so the stream is becoming a perennial stream again. Walking route along the stream: distance: about 1.3 km (each direction). Access points: south (via Kiryat Bialik) or north (near Kfar Massarik). Who it's suitable for: families, strollers, relaxed walking. The path is paved and accessible, including seating areas, shelters, and bridges. The walk starts from the south parking area, right next to the Road 22 bridge. A comfortable path leads through a large eucalyptus grove and a water channel (Channel 42), until the point where it meets Nahal Naaman. Here you'll find a small wooden bridge leading to an observation shelter, from which you can see the stream's rich vegetation—juncus (Gom'a), saw-like reed (Sof Misuy), and large reed (Shinit Gedola). Further along the trail you'll reach a metal observation shelter with explanatory signs. If you're lucky, you might see the soft turtle—the giant water turtle, which may weigh up to 50 kg. The Nature and Parks Authority will stock the stream with mature individuals, in the hope of establishing a new local population. In the stream you can also swim with the "Lebanon of Yarkon" (Lebanon fish)—a rare fish that is almost extinct and found only in coastal plain streams; tilapia (Amnon); and also enormous catfish that reach a length of one meter or more. Further along you'll reach a main bridge leading to the right bank. Here you'll find a large grove with picnic tables, plus an additional walking segment about 700 meters long. Among the prominent plants you'll see the European wolf's-bane (a white flower with a tall stem) and the pointed henbane (Hank Maḥudad), a poisonous but spectacular climber that specifically attracts the endangered Danaus (Sedom) butterfly. At the end of this section you'll reach another small bridge, a play facility, and two picnic tables. Further along you'll find the northern bridge, which is currently not passable. If and when the Ein Ninfet Trail is completed, it will be possible to continue from there northward to the nearby reserve.

Yeshach Cave

מערת ישח

Haifa and Mount Carmel

Yeshach Cave All information about Yeshach Cave: Between the familiar routes on the "Green Mountain," all year round, there is a less well-known route leading to Yeshach Cave. Park your car in the Nahal Oren parking lot (near Junction Kela 6) and set out on the route that starts near a locked iron gate, along with a marking of the Israel Trail and a marking of the Green Trail nearby. Continue walking on the trail according to the Israel Trail markings, which are also marked as a green trail, and walk westward. A walk of about one kilometer on the gentle trail will take you to a 400-meter cliff in which there is a group of caves—small and large. The large cave is called Yeshach Cave. This is a karst cave with a height of 4 m and a depth of about 12 m. In front of it there is an ancient structure with an arch of stones. It is recommended to bring a flashlight, which will allow you to carefully peek into the rooms inside the caves. On the way to Yeshach Cave, you will encounter spectacular viewpoints: in autumn—blooming sternbergia (autumn flowers), narcissus, and saffron crocus; in winter—cyclamen, and in spring—colorful blooms. If you are looking for a place worth stopping for a coffee break or an easy picnic, then the caves area is perfect for that. The route is not shaded and is not suitable for summer. Want to keep hiking? You can continue walking along the cliff and enjoy coolers and additional caves along the way, some of which serve bats as places to live.

All information about Sedea Stream: Six springs feed the stream between them—Ein Sedea, which is the spring with the largest flow. Ein Sedea issues from within a 80-meter-long conduit. Along the conduit there is a water pipe that draws water from the spring, water that was used for drinking by the residents of Haifa. Sedea Stream. Photo: Shir Yam. In practice, until the 1980s Sedea Stream was a main source of drinking water for the residents of Haifa. Note, do not enter the conduit! It is not stable. The source of the name is in the Arabic name of the spring, which is called 'Ayn al-Sa'da, meaning "springs of good fortune." Is it possible to enter the water? You can enter the water only at the point where Ein Sedea issues, and not along the stream. Unfortunately, later there is a drainage pipe that leads water of a lower quality; you can sometimes see it in action. The water is probably contaminated with sewage, and in the past there were also oils that were pumped from the area of the garages. The water is periodically tested by the Kishon Stream Authority. An urban haven of greenery in Haifa. Photo: Shir Yam. Along the length of the stream you can see a variety of plants, turtles, fish, and more. These days, volunteers are working on laying a circular hiking trail along the stream. The trail is marked with green arrows. Along the trail you will see signs with explanations about the wildlife and vegetation in the stream. Students from the Riali School in Haifa established several nice seating areas beside the stream. In recent years, Sedea Stream has made headlines in the context of an environmental NGO struggle to preserve the stream and stop the discharge of wastewater into it.

Ein Kedem and Nahal Nedar🥾 Excursions

Ein Kedem and Nahal Nedar

עין קדם ונחל נדר

Haifa and Mount Carmel

A stream called Naḥal Nedar and Ein Kedem along the hiking route in the Naḥal Nedar streambed: on the way you will encounter the lovely spring of Ein Kedem. Of the three springs that well up from the side of the hill and the streambed—Ein Nedar, Ein Kanim, and Ein Kedem—the last is the only one that is plentiful all year long, and besides the spring itself, you can also see at the site the two basins from which it flows. Whether you reach the spring from the Telalim parking lot or from Atlit Castle, the path will be accompanied by a somewhat tangled and young woodland, like many of the routes in Mount Carmel. Down the Naḥal Nedar you can also see the remains of water channels (aqueducts), which the residents used to irrigate their olive groves by the stream's outflow into Naḥal Galim. The hike on this route is not circular, and it can be reached from Naḥal Galim, from Atlit Castle, or from the parking lot area of the Haifa University and the Telalim parking lot. Two recommended options are before you: a short linear route of 4.5 kilometers downhill along Naḥal Nedar from the parking lot of the Telalim parking area to Atlit Castle. From the starting point, you should set out with the Black Trail marking that is right next to the entrance to the parking area (when entering the parking lot, turn right; then you will notice the wooden sign and the marking—see the photo). A long linear route of 9 kilometers that includes walking in Naḥal Lakh and Naḥal Galim. The route starts at the Damon junction (parking point 1) and ends at the Telalim parking lot (parking point 2) after an ascent in Naḥal Nedar and a visit to the spring (this route also requires two vehicles) | For the full route in Naḥal Lakh and Naḥal Galim " Walking in the water tunnels of Ein Kedem with the help of a flashlight, you can enter into two basins: the right one is the simpler tunnel; the water there usually reaches a height that is between knee level and the level of the pelvis, and after walking about 15 meters inside, you reach a point where the water bursts out of the rock. It seems that this tunnel was carved during the Roman period, and was used to increase the spring's flow. Near the black trail leading to the spring, you can also see the remains of a water channel that at the time conveyed the water toward Atlit Castle. The entrance to the second basin is a bit more complicated—the second tunnel is blocked by a concrete wall that allows pumping the spring water with a large pipe. In the wall there is a small window through which you can squeeze into the tunnel, where the water is deeper and your whole body gets wet. It is longer and is highly recommended for adventurers. If you chose to visit this tunnel, pay attention to the many concretions in its ceiling, which are a remnant of a sea that was once here and created the limestone rock into which the spring is carved.

Haifa and Mount Carmel

All the information about the Druze experience – House of Almukhatār, [Almukha'tar] בית אלמוכאתר The experience we offer is unique. The Druze hospitality, the rural atmosphere you can feel during a tour of the village of Daliyat al-Karmel, the visit to the village in its historical parts, the people, the voices, the sights, the landscapes, and the smells—all of these give the Druze experience the authenticity required, and for you the diverse, many-faceted experience. Learning about history, about the Druze community, about Mediterranean music, and of course the excellent food. Hospitality, all of it a Druze experience: We travel among the trees and the amazing scenery into the village of Daliyat al-Karmel, from where we set out on a walk-through tour of the ancient village on foot between the houses, the coffee roaster house and the scent of the coffee, the olive press and olive oil, until we reach within the ancient settlement. The visit includes: The Druze House of the People in the village—the house where all the people of the village gather in order to resolve social problems, and also in this house all funeral and mourning ceremonies take place. "Khulwah" — the Druze house of prayer: On our way we will see the great and new Druze house of prayer, and together we will also see the first house of prayer that was established in Daliyat al-Karmel, and on the door at the courtyard there is a Star of David—what is the reason? What is the connection? You'll ask when you're on the tour, and you'll receive the answers. The ancient Druze house: We will pass along the narrow paths between the ancient houses, and we will observe an ancient house and receive an explanation of its parts, its structure, and what each level is intended for. Why are the doors large? And why are they always open? What are the two only rooms in the house used for? "Almnazool" — upon our arrival at the first site of the Almukhatār of Daliyat al-Karmel, we will explain the guest house that was used by the mukhtār to receive his guests from outside, and that also served as a place for a small council meeting for discussions and resolving specific problems in the village. Almnazool is built of two rooms—can someone explain why? Hand to the Sons of Binyamin [Hand for the Sons of Binyamin] — House of Sir Lawrence Oliphant — Daliyat al-Karmel — the house of Sir Lawrence Oliphant, a British diplomat and a lover of Zionism, one of the Righteous Among the Nations, who arrived and lived in Daliyat al-Karmel and forged wonderful ties with the people of the community. Entry to Lawrence Oliphant's room, and entry to his former secretary's room—Naftali Hertz Imber—who composed "Hatikvah" from the famous balcony, with the view of the green Carmel and the beautiful sea. The Prophet Abu Abrahim: The sacred site for the Druze community and the residents of the village of Daliyat al-Karmel—the cave of the Prophet Abu Abrahim, one of the five most important prophets in the community. Abu Abrahim is believed to be the protector of the village—according to faith. Is there proof for this? We will find out on the tour..... The Mukhtār's House— the House of the Mukhtār of Daliyat al-Karmel, which has been restored to its former condition and opened especially for you as part of the Druze experience. The house is built with two large rooms with a "diwan" as in the old days. In the house, we will host you and provide an elegant meal. In addition, we will be able to see authentic photos and exhibits from the history of the Druze community. And to round it off: Lecture—during the tour we will receive a lecture about the Druze community that will address important topics such as the source of the religion and its complexity, the secrecy of the religion, the status of women, belief in reincarnation, the principle of "Al-taqiyah" [אלתק'יה], and the connection with the State of Israel and the Jewish people. The lectures are given by the best lecturers, such as Dr. Jaber Abu Rokan, Druze attorneys who live locally, Dr. Ramzi Chalabi, and various religious figures. Isn't that enough? Druze celebration— for those interested in music and dancing, the Druze experience offers an authentic Druze celebration, with a oud player and a darbuka player, with songs by Farid Alatresh and an authentic celebration with Druze dabke dances and the pleasant tunes of classical music— to be added.... The Druze experience also offers the following tour options: Short tour—one and a half hours to two hours, including a tour of the ancient village, entry to the Hand to the Sons of Binyamin, a lecture, and hospitality at the Mukhtār's House. Long tour—3 to 5 hours, including a viewpoint at Muhraka and a full tour, a lecture about the community, and a meal at the Mukhtār's House.

The museum currently presents a variety of diverse and unique areas, including: Our Sea, Tel HaDagin, Time in a Capsule, Home Port, Young Sailors, Pirates—between truth and legend, Save it! SOS, Courtyard of the Lower Deck. A new exhibition at the National Maritime Museum in Haifa: "Sea and Everything in It." A solo exhibition by Rami Klein presents an unusual—artistic, poetic, and scientific—perspective on marine nature. The exhibition is accompanied by an active space for the whole family, with a variety of workshops, including: Symbiosis in the Sea: creating an animation video using stop-motion technique, whose protagonists are animals in the coral reef that cooperate with each other; A Song for the Reef: connecting songs inspired by photographs from the exhibition, which will be showcased on a magnetic board; a Sea Games corner, and more. More about the museum: The museum is located at the southern entrance to Haifa and attracts thousands of visitors each year. In its storerooms, national treasures and fascinating exhibits from the fields of shipping, underwater archaeology, and ancient art are hidden. The large collection reflects the immense power of the sea in shaping the culture, religion, and economy of the Mediterranean basin over thousands of years. We are here—in modern Israel, as well as in the Haifa area—a link in the chain of this history. It is fascinating to see the importance of the sea in the geographical context of the Land of Israel and the surroundings of Haifa in particular—from ancient times to the present day. Alongside this, the sea is connected to burning universal topics, such as the ecological health of the seas and oceans and the damage done to them, migration from the Third World countries via the sea, and more. Against the backdrop of these topics, the museum's activities encourage encounters between researchers, professionals, environmental activists, and diverse audiences.

All the information about the Haifa City Museum: Join a fascinating journey at the Haifa City Museum! Come and discover the past of the historic city and the vibrant present in a museum that presents a variety of rotating and permanent exhibitions dealing with topics such as: urban life, identity, multi-nationality, inter-culturality, and more. The museum is located in the German Colony, in a stone building that was preserved and rebuilt from the ground up, which served as a community house for the German Templers, the residents of the Colony. Exhibitions currently presented: Mike Brant – To the ends of the body: a unique and rare exhibition following the story of the life of the famous singer Mike Brant (Moshe Brand), born in Haifa. The moving exhibition is built around Zvika Brant's personal archive—Mike's younger brother—and presents a collection including thousands of collectible items, items of clothing from the star's personal wardrobe, rare photos, notes written by Mike by hand, and more. Haifa Tachtit – Gil Bar: the exhibition is built from a collection of photographs focusing on abandoned and destroyed buildings and comparing them to a type of monuments in the urban landscape. The buildings tell a complex story about the forces that shaped the city's unique character, and also raise questions about its politics, its history, and the future of the city of Haifa. Between the Mountain and the Sea – the permanent exhibition: in the exhibition, the story of the city of Haifa is told through three main periods in its history: during the Ottoman period, in the days of the British Mandate, and after the establishment of the State of Israel—as a prelude to the formation of modern Haifa. The exhibition emphasizes the pluralistic nature of settlement in the area, as it was composed of people of different nationalities from distant lands, people of different religions and diverse communities that created a foundation for establishing the modern cosmopolitan city. You are invited to keep updated with additional exhibitions and events on the museum's website
