More about the museum: The museum is located at the southern entrance to Haifa and attracts thousands of visitors each year. In its storerooms, national treasures and fascinating exhibits from the fields of shipping, underwater archaeology, and ancient art are hidden. The large collection reflects the immense power of the sea in shaping the culture, religion, and economy of the Mediterranean basin over thousands of years. We are here—in modern Israel, as well as in the Haifa area—a link in the chain of this history. It is fascinating to see the importance of the sea in the geographical context of the Land of Israel and the surroundings of Haifa in particular—from ancient times to the present day. Alongside this, the sea is connected to burning universal topics, such as the ecological health of the seas and oceans and the damage done to them, migration from the Third World countries via the sea, and more. Against the backdrop of these topics, the museum's activities encourage encounters between researchers, professionals, environmental activists, and diverse audiences.
