Frequently asked questions

Practical answers before booking your hotel in Bangkok.

Which area should we choose in Bangkok?

For legacy palaces and the river, Riverside / Chao Phraya (Mandarin Oriental, Peninsula, Shangri-La). For nightlife and the BTS Skytrain, Sukhumvit. For rooftops and the business district, Silom / Sathorn. Avoid Khao San Road unless you're after the backpacker scene. The Skytrain and river boats are the easiest way to bypass the famous traffic.

What budget should we plan for a Bangkok hotel?

Expect €100-220 per night in a 4-star, €250-600 in a 5-star (Mandarin Oriental, Peninsula, Capella, Four Seasons), €50-100 in a high-comfort 3-star. Bangkok offers excellent value for money: a palace here costs roughly a third of its Parisian counterpart. Peak seasons: November-March (cool season), Christmas and Chinese New Year.

How do we reach Bangkok from Suvarnabhumi?

Suvarnabhumi (BKK, main): Airport Rail Link 30 min to Phaya Thai (~€1), metered taxi ~€10-15 (45 min depending on traffic), private transfer €30-50. Don Mueang (DMK, low-cost): taxi ~€10, A1/A4 bus. Elynor Tours can arrange a private French-speaking transfer — useful with children after a 12-hour flight.

Are there kosher hotels in Bangkok?

Several kosher restaurants (Bangkok Kosher, the Sukhumvit Soi 22 Chabad House restaurant). No hotel is strictly kosher, but palace hotels (Mandarin Oriental, Peninsula, Shangri-La) can arrange kosher cuisine with 2-3 weeks' notice. The Sukhumvit Chabad House welcomes travellers and hosts Shabbat meals. Let us know your hechsher requirements before booking.

When is the best time to visit Bangkok?

November-February brings the famous cool season (24-30°C, little rain). March-May is very hot (33-40°C) — Songkran in mid-April is unique but hotels are pricey. June-October: rainy season (short intense showers, cheaper hotels and flights). Humidity remains high year-round.
