Frequently asked questions

Practical answers before booking your hotel in Hong Kong.

Which area should we choose in Hong Kong?

For luxury and finance, Central / Admiralty (Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, Upper House, Peak Tram on foot). For skyline views and shopping, Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon, Peninsula, Rosewood). For nightlife, SoHo / Lan Kwai Fong. Avoid Mong Kok or the New Territories unless you have a specific reason — Hong Kong Island and Kowloon are the essentials.

What budget should we plan for a Hong Kong hotel?

Expect €200-400 per night in a 4-star, €450-900 in a 5-star (Mandarin Oriental, Four Seasons, Peninsula, Rosewood, Upper House), €130-220 in a 3-star. Hong Kong remains pricier than Bangkok and Tokyo, with smaller rooms. Peak seasons: autumn (October-November), Art Basel, Chinese New Year.

How do we reach Hong Kong from HKIA?

The Airport Express reaches Central in 24 minutes (~€13) with free shuttles to most palace hotels. Red taxi (Hong Kong Island) ~€35-45, green taxi (Kowloon) cheaper. A private transfer is rarely needed since the Airport Express is very efficient. In-town check-in for luggage is available at express stations.

Are there kosher hotels in Hong Kong?

A few kosher restaurants (Mul HaShemen, Sasson's) and the Chabad House are active in Hong Kong (Mid-Levels and Tsim Sha Tsui). No hotel is strictly kosher, but palaces (Mandarin Oriental, Peninsula, Four Seasons) can arrange kosher cuisine on request with notice. There is an established Ashkenazi and Sephardi Jewish community.

When is the best time to visit Hong Kong?

October-December offers the best conditions (20-26°C, clear skies, low humidity). March-May is mild but hazy. Summer (June-September): hot, very humid (30-35°C, 90% humidity), typhoon season. January-February: cool (12-18°C), sometimes rainy, but lively with Chinese New Year.
