Frequently asked questions

Practical answers before booking your hotel in Montreal.

Which neighborhood is best for a stay in Montreal?

Old Montreal charms with European cobblestones, boutique hotels and the St. Lawrence riverfront. Downtown (Place des Arts, the underground RESO) is convenient in winter and ideal for business and shopping. The Plateau Mont-Royal attracts a trendy French-speaking crowd, Mile End is the historic Hasidic Jewish district (and bagel capital!), Outremont is chic and French-speaking Jewish, and Westmount is well-heeled English-speaking. For residential stays, Cote-Saint-Luc and Hampstead concentrate much of the Jewish community.

What budget per night by hotel category?

Plan around 110-180 EUR for a comfortable 3-star, 180-350 EUR for 4-star (William Gray, Hotel Nelligan, Le Mount Stephen on the boutique side) and 350-700 EUR for iconic 5-star addresses such as Ritz-Carlton Montreal, Four Seasons Montreal or Fairmont Le Reine Elizabeth. Prices are quoted in euros (CAD billed locally) and surge in June around the F1 Grand Prix (up to 3x) and during the Jazz Festival (late June/early July).

How do I get downtown from YUL airport?

Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau (YUL) airport is about 25 minutes from downtown. The 747 STM bus runs 24/7 for 11 CAD (about 7.50 EUR) and serves Downtown and the bus terminal. A taxi costs roughly 50 CAD (about 35 EUR) at a flat rate. We can also arrange a private French-speaking transfer.

Is Montreal convenient for kosher travel and Shabbat?

Yes — Montreal hosts a Jewish community of about 90,000, one of North America's most active. You'll find well-known kosher restaurants such as Pizza Pita, Chez Ouni, Casa Linga and Foxy's Steakhouse, plus several Beth Habad centers. Major synagogues include the Spanish & Portuguese (Canada's oldest), Shaar Hashomayim and large shuls in Westmount, Outremont and Cote-Saint-Luc. Downtown and Old Montreal hotels typically accept kosher meal deliveries on request.

When is the best time to visit Montreal?

June to September is ideal: 20-28 degC, terraces, festivals (Jazz, Just for Laughs, Osheaga) and a buzzing Old Port. October offers spectacular Indian summer foliage. Winter is harsh (-15 degC, feels like -25 degC) but magical, with Igloofest, the lit-up Quartier des Spectacles and the underground RESO that lets you move around without going outside. Avoid late March / early April — sloshy thaw season with little tourism.
