About

All information about Sedea Stream: Six springs feed the stream between them—Ein Sedea, which is the spring with the largest flow. Ein Sedea issues from within a 80-meter-long conduit. Along the conduit there is a water pipe that draws water from the spring, water that was used for drinking by the residents of Haifa. Sedea Stream. Photo: Shir Yam. In practice, until the 1980s Sedea Stream was a main source of drinking water for the residents of Haifa. Note, do not enter the conduit! It is not stable. The source of the name is in the Arabic name of the spring, which is called 'Ayn al-Sa'da, meaning "springs of good fortune." Is it possible to enter the water? You can enter the water only at the point where Ein Sedea issues, and not along the stream. Unfortunately, later there is a drainage pipe that leads water of a lower quality; you can sometimes see it in action. The water is probably contaminated with sewage, and in the past there were also oils that were pumped from the area of the garages. The water is periodically tested by the Kishon Stream Authority. An urban haven of greenery in Haifa. Photo: Shir Yam. Along the length of the stream you can see a variety of plants, turtles, fish, and more. These days, volunteers are working on laying a circular hiking trail along the stream. The trail is marked with green arrows. Along the trail you will see signs with explanations about the wildlife and vegetation in the stream. Students from the Riali School in Haifa established several nice seating areas beside the stream. In recent years, Sedea Stream has made headlines in the context of an environmental NGO struggle to preserve the stream and stop the discharge of wastewater into it.
