Ein Meklef
עין מקלף

About
All information about Ein Meklef: Ein Meklef was discovered some years ago, and its waters are collected in a small pool nearby, where a single lone Misha tree grows (the place must be kept clean!). The spring's source is a cleft carved in limestone. The spring is named after Meklef, the third Chief of Staff of the IDF, who grew up in the nearby village of Motza. Aryeh Leib Meklef, a native of Jerusalem, was one of the four founders of the settlement. He arrived in Motza after killing an Arab with a weapon while serving as a guard in Metula. Fear of blood revenge forced him to leave for Motza, which at the time was seeking settlers. In the 1929 riots, this house saw a terrible pogrom. Aryeh and Chaya Meklef, their three children, and two adult guests were murdered by rioters from a nearby village called Kolonia. One of the survivors would later become the IDF Chief of Staff, Mordechai Meklef. Note: You can also reach the spring as part of the route "Shakediyot and a Forgotten Settlement."
