About

All the information about the Lookout Hill: the Lupine Hill of the Armon HaNetziv estate The Lookout Hill is a beloved gem for Jerusalem residents, named based on the words "matzפה" ("lookout") and "tel" ("mound"), which were given to it by residents of Armon HaNetziv and that later became its everyday name. During the winter season, from February to March, the hill is adorned with hundreds of purple lupines that bloom here in all their glory, thanks to the Jerusalem cold that gives the lupine the optimal conditions for thriving. In addition to the mesmerizing view, the Lookout Hill is known as one of the most impressive spots in Jerusalem for the view it offers. In the eastern part of the hill, you can enjoy views of the Dead Sea and the mountains of Moab spread out beneath your feet; in the northern part, you can look out at the Old City and the Temple Mount; and from the south you can gaze toward the Rodion National Park. Starting in 2021, an intense battle took place between the state and thousands of Jerusalem activists regarding the character of the hill, after it was decided to convert the hill into a police compound. Unlike other cases, the end of the Lookout Hill was good and optimistic, when in August 2023 the state announced that it would examine an alternative location for building the police station that threatened the charming nature site.
