Afula Valley Train Station in Alroy
תחנת רכבת העמק באלרואי

About
All the information about the Afula Valley train station in Alroy: the renovated Afula Valley train is already on the tracks, but it was not and will not be like the legendary Afula Valley train, which was part of the cradle of our culture in the days before and after the establishment of the State of Israel. One of the railway stations was here, in Alroy. Today, a visitor center awaits you here, with an exciting, innovative, and especially colorful reconstruction. A great spot for coffee, and an opportunity for children to climb onto the locomotive and the historic station cars. Alroy Village was founded in 1935, when its boundaries were set on both sides of the Hijaz railway line. The railway line was built in 1905 by the Ottoman Empire, which ruled the country, and it carried passengers and cargo from Haifa to Damascus. In 1936, the administration of the Mandatory railway responded to requests by the Alroy Village committee (today a neighborhood in Kiryat Tivon) and placed an official sign for stopping the train in Alroy. The stop station also served the neighboring kibbutz Sha'ar HaEmekim, and starting in 1937 it also served the settlement of Kiryat Amal. The station contributed greatly to the development of these settlements. In 1943, the railway administration built a station building made of silicate bricks. In 1952, trains stopped running on this line, and the station was abandoned and left to ruin. In 1997, residents of Alroy initiated an action for rescue and restoration of the station and its surroundings, turning it into a historical site for preserving the "Afula Valley Train" heritage. About 650 meters north of the station, you can find the Alroy spring, suitable for visiting and wading. The station building has been restored, and inside you can see a number of photographs showing what the place looked like in the past, how it was restored, and even the panels detailing the train times—fascinating. A spontaneous visit will bring you face-to-face with the open carriages, several explanatory signs, and photographs. It is recommended to arrange a local guided tour in advance and experience what was the greatest technological renewal the Middle East ever knew (the train).
